Crowded Markets Low Sales Vendors Hope for increase in sales
Traders and population at the Bamenda main market
Despite the population that has filled Bamenda main market, vendors says sales has remain unexpectedly low, raising concerns among traders who now hope on an improvement in sales in the coming days.
From early morning until closing market hours , narrow pathways are packed with buyers going through stalls, bargaining loudly and inspecting colorful fabrics Christmas decors and kitchen utensils . However, for many cloth vendors, the reality behind the crowded markets tells a different story.
where as,several traders report that while foot traffic has increased significantly, actual purchases have not matched expectations. Aunty Frida who sells clothes says “People are coming, they are looking, asking prices, even trying out fabrics, But at the end of the day, very few are actually buying.”
Most Vendors attribute the low sales to a mix of rising living costs and cautious spending habits among customers. Many shoppers, are prioritizing essential items over clothing, especially non-essential or festive wears, sometimes you think today will be better because of the crowd, but it ends with disappointment.”While Others are simply surveying prices, waiting for discounts or better deals later.
For now, says aunty Frida I will continue to open my stall every morning, relying on patience and optimism. Because i am hopeful “with a smile” ,Markets move in cycles. If not today, then tomorrow or next week, sales will come.
As the crowds continue to swell, traders are holding on to the belief that better business days lie just ahead.
